Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to your most common questions about using Ideal Home Help.
The Home Help program is run by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). It provides personal care services to people who need hands-on help with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, and eating, as well as home activities like cooking and cleaning. It’s a Medicaid-funded program, which means qualifying Michigan residents receive these services at no cost to them.
Not necessarily. Unlike skilled medical care, the Home Help program focuses on personal care and daily assistance — not clinical services — so a physician’s order is not required to begin the process. What does matter is a Medicaid eligibility determination and a needs assessment through MDHHS. We’ll walk you through exactly what’s needed to get started.
The Home Help program does not require you to be homebound in the medical sense. Services are provided in your home because that’s where personal care is needed — but this is different from the Medicare homebound requirement, which applies to skilled nursing and therapy services. If you’re unsure which program applies to your situation, we can help you figure it out.
Once Medicaid eligibility is confirmed and a service plan is approved through MDHHS, we move fast. Our digital-first process — electronic paperwork, digital signatures, and video orientation — means we can get your caregiver authorized and paid without the delays that come with paper-based agencies.
Your dedicated coordinator is your first call for any scheduling, service, or administrative concerns. We’re reachable during business hours and respond quickly — no call centers, no automated systems.
We provide support in 14+ languages: Arabic, Bengali, Cantonese, English, Fujianese, Haitian Creole, Hindi, Mandarin, Polish, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish, Ukrainian, Urdu. Our team is built to serve Michigan’s diverse communities, and we make sure language is never a barrier to getting the care your family needs.
To qualify, you generally need to be enrolled in Michigan Medicaid (or be eligible for it), require hands-on assistance with personal care or household tasks due to age, disability, or a chronic condition, and be living in your own home or a family member’s home — not a licensed care facility. MDHHS conducts a needs assessment to determine the level of service you qualify for. We can help you understand your eligibility before you even start the application.
