Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to your most common questions about Ideal Home Help.
The Home Help program is a Medicaid-funded program run by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). It allows eligible Michigan residents to receive personal care assistance with daily activities like bathing, dressing, meal preparation, and light housekeeping — provided by a caregiver of their choice, including a family member or trusted friend.
Qualifying individuals must be enrolled in Michigan Medicaid, require personal care or household assistance due to age, disability, or a chronic health condition, and be living at home rather than in a licensed care facility. MDHHS conducts an in-home assessment to evaluate need and determine the approved hours of service. We help families navigate this process from start to finish.
The program covers personal care (bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility assistance) and household tasks (cooking, cleaning, laundry). The person receiving care chooses their own caregiver — including a family member or close friend — giving families real control over who provides care and how. Caregivers are paid through the program, and Ideal Home Help handles all the administrative, payroll, and compliance work to keep everything running smoothly.
Home Help is a medicaid reimbursed program. Caregivers are paid directly by Ideal Home Help. Once a caregiver is onboarded, they log their hours electronically and receive payment weekly via direct deposit. We handle all the paperwork so caregivers spend their time on care, not administration.
Clinical certifications are NOT required. Home Help is a non-medical program — caregivers assist with personal care and daily living activities, not medical procedures. Caregivers do need to complete program enrollment and orientation through Ideal Home Help, and must pass a background check as required by MDHHS. Our team guides every caregiver through the process step by step.
